چکیده
CHEST/85/5/MAY,1984 713 value, befure bronchodilation, the same expressed as the percentage predicted, the measured values after bronchodilator, and the percentage change. Although this is a large amount of data, we think that the form we have chosen is clear and easy to interpret (Fig 1). Two graphs showing flow/volume loops are given on the report. The first depicts the predicted loop, plotted at predicted lung volumes, with, superimposed, the pre-bronchodilator loop, plotted at the measured long volume. The latter is replotted on the second graph for comparison with the post-bronchodilator loop, again plotted at the measured post-bronchodilator lung volume. Any test not required for a particular patient is left blank. The full report, as shown, is printed by a dot matrix printer in less than 2 minutes using data stored on a floppy disk. We think that our format, which presents the full range of standard pulmonary function tests, demonstrates that a combined numerical and graphic form can be used to provide a report which is easy to interpret.

The Case against Anticoagulant Therapy.
I WANT to emphasize that I am not against the use of anticoagulants, fundamentally. My "against" implies opposition to an uncritical use of these drugs. The main purpose of my lecture is to show that we do not yet know enough about the value of anti-coagulant therapy. To begin with, I want to talk about the treatment of myocardial infarctions in the acute stage. Nearly everybody will agree toda...
متن کاملAmerican Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons clinical practice guideline on: preventing venous thromboembolic disease in patients undergoing elective hip and knee arthroplasty.
This guideline supersedes a prior one from 2007 on a similar topic. The work group evaluated the available literature concerning various aspects of patient screening, risk factor assessment, and prophylactic treatment against venous thromboembolic disease (VTED), as well as the use of postoperative mobilization, neuraxial agents, and vena cava filters. The group recommended further assessment o...
متن کاملHemiparetic Knee Extensor Strength and Balance Function Are Predictors of Ambulatory Function in Subacute Stroke Patients
OBJECTIVE To identify the potential predictors of ambulatory function in subacute stroke patients, and to determine the contributing factors according to gait severity. METHODS Fifty-three subacute stroke patents were enrolled. Ambulatory function was assessed by gait speed and endurance. Balance function was evaluated by the Berg Balance Scale score (BBS) and the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). ...
متن کاملBilateral Pulmonary Thromboembolism: An Unusual Presentation of Infection with Influenza A (H1N1) Virus
Swine flue is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease caused by a subtype of influenza A virus. Herein we present three patients with H1N1 infection complicated with pulmonary thromboembolism. The patients had chest pain and unexplained dyspnea. Imaging studies showed bilateral hilar predominance. Computed tomographic angiography confirmed bilateral thromboembolism (an unusual presentatio...
متن کاملNew Therapeutic Agent against Arterial Thrombosis: An Iridium(III)-Derived Organometallic Compound
Platelet activation plays a major role in cardio and cerebrovascular diseases, and cancer progression. Disruption of platelet activation represents an attractive therapeutic target for reducing the bidirectional cross talk between platelets and tumor cells. Platinum (Pt) compounds have been used for treating cancer. Hence, replacing Pt with iridium (Ir) is considered a potential alternative. We...
